3rd time is the charm: 2 slugs in the semifinals

We made our fist money! Today was the end of our third tourny, and Marc made it to the finals and Colin made it to the semi's. We both lost to the same player... the pics are from the finals today.
Earlier in our second tournament in Saint Pair, Marc registered our first victory by defeating a solid player who played for Washburn University in Texas, a top DII school. He lost in the next round to a good clay player, Cedric, who has turned into one of our closest homies here. Colin lost in the first round, straight set and a really frustrating match. The guy just grinded and didnt miss, and was too crafty.

We just finished our third tournament, in small town called Coutainville, and it was by far our most successful tourny so far! Yesterday we each won our first two rounds, and played this morning in our respective semi-finals. Can you say SLug Final!! It wasnt quite meant to be, but Varta made it to the finals with a good crowd and lots of excitement.

Colin's first match was against a player from Shorter college in Georgia, he played #5 for their team last year and they lost in the semi-finals of NAIA nationals to Fresno Pacific. We ended up playing indoors on some really fast hard courts, and I lost the first set close 7-5. I got down 4-1, and battled back with some big big serving and big forehands, faught off two match points, and pulled the second out 7-6. In the third, it was close until the very end, and i pulled off a passing shot at 30-40 at 5-4 to break for the win. I cant tell you how good it felt to get a win! After over a week of camping, rain, camp food, and daily grinding, it was such a good victory. I won my second match in the evening relatively eAsily 6-2, 6-1. In my semi-final match, the guy I played was good (ranked 0, which is about two rankings ahead of Marc and I) and he hit a really flat and hard ball. The court was unforgiving, and had an almost pyramid shape to it. Not condusive to long points, and I lost 6-2, 6-3. Not much rhythm to the match, but the guy is a good player.

The best news is that we made our first money! I got 70 euros for gettin to the semi's and varta got 130 euro's for the finals. SO stoked.

Some of the pictures I included show us out on the beach, when the tide is really far out. It goes out so far that boats just get stranded on the sand and arent within even like 100 meters of water. We have been getting friendlier and friendlier with the players and tournament organizers, and everyone has been so nice to us. We got a ride to the last two tournaments, and this last night they let us cook and sleep in the clubhouse at the tournament. There were like tornado winds going on, so it was a really good thing.

Tonight there is a party held by the club at the local casino, and we leave for the next tournament at 7:30 in the morning. We play at 10 in the morning, so its a really quick turn around. After the upcoming tournament, in Cartere, we start the second leg of our trip down on the Mediterranean.

Marc will give a recap of his matches soon. Hope you all are well!
